Develop practical skills to support people in aged care, disability, and community settings.
Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.
These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Mode of Delivery
- Full time
- Face to Face at Melbourne Campus or
- Blended Learning* for offshore students
- Vocational Placement (120 hrs) in Melbourne
Offshore students must travel to Melbourne to complete practical assessments and a 3 week vocational placement.
Course Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements to enrol in this course
General
- be 18 years’ or older at course commencement
- have physical capabilities to perform the manual handling tasks required of persons working in the aged
- and community care sector
- have a current National Police Certificate (NPC)
- obtain a volunteer Working With Children Check prior to undertaking their placement
- provide evidence a current Influenza (Flu) vaccine, as well as Covid 19 vaccines and corresponding
- Covid 19 vaccine certificate, prior to undertaking their placement
Academic
- completed Australian Year 11, or equivalent, or
- demonstrate English Proficiency by having attained a minimum IELTS Score 6.0, or equivalent, within the last 2 years.
Applicants may demonstrate language and numeracy proficiency levels by undertaking Platinum Institute’s ACSF LLN assessments. Prospective students must consider any personal barriers, or potential challenges, prior to applying to enrol in this course
Duration
The course is conducted over 52 weeks:
- 40 weeks of classes, face-to-face or blended learning
- 3 week vocational placement arranged by the Institute
- 9 weeks of breaks and holidays

- Enrolment Fee: $250.00
- Tuition Fee: Onshore: $11,000.00 Offshore: $2,750
- Materials Fee: Onshore $1,000.00 Offshore: No additional fees
